College is full of anxiety-ridden situations and scenarios, and when even you finally graduate and move into the life of an adult that only brings in more responsibilities to worry about. It’s no surprise that you often go day to day frantically completing your tasks and hurriedly getting your jobs done, some days even more stressful than others. The stress of life can cause us to focus only on those temporal things that cause us to be anxious, and not take time to pause.
Ask yourself, do you find yourself in that rut?
I do. I find myself going from class to class, same path, same days, same seat, same thoughts. Sometimes college life (or even adult life) may make you feel like you’ve turned into a zombie, repeating the same tasks the same way, and just doing them because you have to. Honestly, that’s no way to live. We need to find the joys and opportunities that lie ahead, and then rejoice and be thankful in our blessings.
Instead of taking my mid-afternoon nap this Monday (like all my Mondays), I found time to look through my Bible and reflect on my life and my blessings. Once verse in particular that stood out to me which is also one of my favorites is Pslam 46:10. It says, “Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations; I will be exalted in the earth.” Be still. Think to yourself about how many times a day you are still. Not in class, or asleep, but just still in a quiet place with an open mind and an open heart, perhaps alone, or with your roommates coexisting in your living room. When I think about it I am not still that often, I am always running from Point A to Point B, often in fast forward. I haven’t been noticing God around me even when He is always there.
Our life is full of highs and lows, like mountains and valleys. God is with us through our highest mountains and our lowest valley. He has made a plan for us. He knows that even though you or I may be in a valley right now that mountain sure will have a nice view. Isaiah 41:10, says “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” So even if you find yourself walking around like a zombie in a rut, in the deepest valley of life or just so focused on everyday responsibilities that you have drifted from your day to day relationship with God, find peace knowing that God is with you 100% of the way and that you are loved and cared for by Him.
Don’t give up. Climb out of your rut. Seek the quiet and be still. Turn to God and you can make it to the mountaintop.
